Sumo Competition Rules

Every competition has rules, and the sumo competition is no different. This lesson will go over the sumo field, how large your Sumo Bot can be, and what type of programming you can use. Good luck in the sumo competition!

Step 1

The field

The field is a 48″ x 48″ white surface. Inside is a circle with a 40″ diameter bordered by black eletrical tape. The tape is 0.75″ thick. Yours should look similar to the picture below:

Step 2

Rules and regulations

Robots should be built with the Smart Inventor Board.
The size limit for your Sumo Bot is 8.5″ x 8.5″, width by length. Your robot cannot go outside of that size limit at any time during the match!
There is no height limit (woohoo!).
Only two motors may be used on the robot.
The robot must be autonomous — it should not be remote controlled.
The robot cannot exceed 1.5 pounds in weight.
The robot must buzz within the first five seconds to indicate that it is about to start.
