Device Setup

All of the Rokit Smart bots are programmed with Arduino, which is a text-based programming language. Learn how to install Arduino IDE on your computer and how to use it with your Rokit Smart bots!

Step 1

Download and install Arduino

If you want to run your own code on your Rokit Smart bots, you’ll need Arduino. Luckily you can download Arduino IDE directly from the website for free!

  1. Find the version that matches your operating system.
  2. Download and install that version of Arduino.
  3. Run the Arduino IDE by double-clicking on the Arduino icon.

* If you need a visual, we have a video for you!

* Make sure you install the latest version of Arduino. If you are using a Mac device, try to have the latest OS to make sure it is compatible with Arduino.

* Do not use the app store or web editor versions of Arduino. Please use the website link provided.

Step 2

Install RokitSmart library

Open Arduino and go to Sketch > Include Library > Manage Libraries… in the menu.

Search for “RokitSmart” and install the library. Always install the latest version!

Step 3

Install board files

On Mac, open Arduino > Preferences.

On Windows, open File > Settings.

This will open the Preferences window.

Look for a text box labeled “Additional Boards Manager URLs”.

Copy and paste this link in that textbox: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/RobolinkInc/Robolink/master/package_rokit_index.json

Now that you have added the URL, you can close the window and open the Board Manager.

Do this by going to Tools > Board: > Boards Manager… in the menu.

Search for “rokit” and install the board files. Make sure you install the latest version!

Step 4

Driver installation

  • Click here to download the CP210x driver for your operating system.
  • Unzip the downloaded file then open or run the VCP Installation Driver.
  • After installation, open the “Device Manager” and click on the Ports (COM& LPT) tab. Pay attention to the COM port number! It should match the COM port that is listed in the Arduino IDE’s Port tab, which is under Tools > Ports.

Attention Mac Users:

  • Make sure you are on the latest OS if possible (Catalina is incompatible)
  • If you are having trouble uploading code later, try reinstalling the driver a second time.
  • If you are still having trouble, install the version inside of the “Legacy” folder.
