1.6: Master Level 1 Badge Challenge

To demonstrate your understanding of python and the CoDrone Mini, you will create a project that addresses one of the following scenarios:

Scenario 1: The space agency is planning a new mission to Mars and they need a drone pilot! They are still in the planning stages of the mission, but they are looking for eager pilots to come up with a sample mission and present it to Mission Control.

Scenario 2: A wildlife conservation organization heard that drones are great for observing animals in their natural habitats, especially since they can travel farther than humans and see more from the air. They are still in the planning stages of the mission, but they are looking for eager pilots to come up with a sample mission. You pick the animal!

To get started:

1. Choose  a scenario
2. Come up with a story for your mission.
   1. What will be the goal of the mission?
   2. What will the drone need to do to complete the mission?
   3. What value will this mission provide in relationship to the scenario you selected?
3. Determine what your mission will look like and write or type the steps that your drone will follow.
4. Make sure your mission meets the requirements listed below:

Mission Requirements

• Includes at least one of each:
  • takeoff
  • hover
  • land
• Include at least one positive AND negative movement in each direction:
  • roll
  • pitch
  • yaw
  • throttle
• Execute two flight movements that move in two directions (ex. Roll + pitch)
  • This can be done through the go() function or with two separate functions
• There should be two locations where the drone lands temporarily before continuing
• Flight time (off the ground) should be approximately 90 seconds total
• Includes at least six comments that make the program easier to understand and read

Now that you have the mission requirements met and you have the steps your drone will complete, write the program. Make sure that you build your program in small parts. Do not try to write everything at once, instead break the program down into small steps and complete each step successfully before moving to the next.

Keep in mind the style and syntax discussed in the lessons. Your program should meet all style and syntax requirements for Python programs in order to be considered correct for this project.

During the process of writing your code, you must also demonstrate how to perform an emergency stop to your instructor.

Once you have completed your program and met all the flight requirements, you will need to create a presentation in the software of your choice that includes the following information:

1. Which scenario did you choose
2. What was the goal of your mission
3. What value did the mission provide based on the scenario you chose
4. A description of the steps your drone took to complete the mission including explanations of variables and values used for each step
5. What trim values did you set and what was the purpose of those trim values

Once you have completed all of the above steps and your instructor has verified that you have met the requirements below, you will be awarded the CoDrone Mini Master Level 1 Badge. Congratulations!

• Students should be able to explain any libraries they are importing and their purpose
• Demonstrate proper Python syntax
• Students should demonstrate how to emergency stop while in autonomous flight.
• Set trim values for their drone and explain the purpose
• Includes at least one takeoff, hover, and land
• Include at least one positive AND negative movement in each direction: roll, pitch, yaw, and throttle
• Execute two flight movements that move in two directions (ex. Roll + pitch)
• Include at least 1 flight sequence
• Explain what the power and duration parameters are and use at least 3 different values for each throughout their program (For example, they would not be able to use 1 second duration for every single block in their program)
• There should be two flight landing pads that they land on somewhere during their flight sequence.
• Flight time (off the ground) should be 90 seconds total
