4.6: Master Level 4 Badge Challenge

To complete your mission and earn the CoDrone Mini Python Master Pilot Badge, choose one of the scenarios below and complete the mission requirements.

Scenario 1:

• You are on a mission to Mars! You need to observe a crater to determine its size and the minerals located in there. However, during your observations a random sandstorm gets in the way.

Scenario 2:

• Wildlife Rescue: You are going to use your drone to observe some animals that need your help! To complete this mission, you will need to complete some observations while avoiding a random storm and help save the animals!

To get started:

1. Choose  a scenario
2. Come up with a story for your mission.
   1. What will be the goal of the mission?
   2. What will the drone need to do to complete the mission?
   3. What value will this mission provide in relationship to the scenario you selected?
3. Determine what your mission will look like and write or type the steps that your drone will follow.
4. Make sure your mission meets the requirements listed below:

Mission Requirements

• Takeoff:
  • Take off from basecamp and spiral down to land.
  • Take off and then collect data while circling from above.
• LEDs:
  • Send the data back to basecamp with the appropriate light pattern (this will depend on your findings).
• Storm:
  • Use a random timer to time the storm. Storms can be anywhere from 5 to 15 seconds (1 minute = 1 second).
  • Find a safe hiding spot and then power down the LED to save battery power.
• Pressure Readings
  • When the storm is over, gather data again by taking pressure readings at different altitudes.
  • Adjust your drone’s speed based on the pressure readings.
• Patterns
  • Perform a square movement around the entire habitat.
• Functions and Variables
  • Write functions for 4 maneuvers that will help you get different angles for your observations.
  • Use 4 different variables in your program.
  • Include one math operation in your program.

Now that you have the mission requirements met and you have the steps your drone will complete, write the program. Make sure that you build your program in small parts. Do not try to write everything at once, instead break the program down into small steps and complete each step successfully before moving to the next.

Keep in mind the style and syntax discussed in the lessons. Your program should meet all style and syntax requirements for Python programs in order to be considered correct for this project.

Once you have completed your program and met all the flight requirements, you will need to create a presentation in the software of your choice that includes the following information:

1. Which scenario did you choose
2. What was the goal of your mission
3. What value did the mission provide based on the scenario you chose
4. A description of the steps your drone took to complete the mission including explanations of variables and values used for each step
5. What trim values did you set and what was the purpose of those trim values

Once you have completed all of the above steps and your instructor has verified that you have met the requirements below, you will be awarded the CoDrone Mini Master Pilot Badge. Congratulations!

• Demonstrate proper Python syntax
• Meets all flight requirements described in the Getting Started section
